Church History
The United Protestant Church has a long history in Port Austin.
The sanctuary, now occupied by the United Protestant Church, was originally a Baptist Church and was built in 1884 by notable in the community.
In 1925, this church became known as The Community Church, due to the fact that it served many denominations from this community. It was served by a circuit-rider Presbyterian minister until 1947.
The Port Austin Methodist Church which stood next door on our now vacant lot, joined the Community Church in 1947. The newly founded union was named the United Protestant Church and all agreed that it would be served by a Methodist pastor which does so to this day.
Garrett Hall was built to house the pastor’s office, the church office, two Sunday school rooms, a kitchen, and a social hall.
This church has served the community for almost 135 years and with God’s help we will continue with His work for many years to come.
